“Tax-advantaged” describes a tax feature. It is not the same as saying something has no taxes, no costs or no risk.

Start with three questions.

  • What is the tax treatment?

Ask what may be taxed, when it may be taxed and which conditions matter.

  • What are the costs and tradeoffs?

Get a clear explanation of premiums, fees, access to money, time commitments and the effect of changing your plans.

  • What happens if the policy changes or ends?

For cash value life insurance, ask about loans, withdrawals, surrender and lapse. These can affect policy values, benefits and tax treatment.

Keep the full picture in view.

A tax feature is one part of a decision. Your protection needs, affordability, time horizon and access to money matter too.

Bring your questions to the conversation and consult a qualified tax professional about your own tax situation.
